Ok we are getting a few messages regarding people receiving and error when trying to load up the call of duty world at war demo:(d3dx9_37.dll was not found)

This error is caused by missing directx files, or in our case and older version of the file has overwritten a newer file which is causing an incompatibility issue, To fix This problem you simply need to update your DirectX version.. You can update your DirectX by downloading & running this tool. This will solve your Call of Duty World at War error message when trying to start the pc demo.

Ok guys..

I havn’t seen this issue:

“Unhandled exception caught”

YET… however this sounds like a sound driver issue.. Please download and install the latest sound drivers for your rig..

Try this if your using VISTA and are getting this error.

Go to Control Panel
The click on “Hardware and Sound”
Click on “Sound”
Doble click on “speakers”
go to the Advanced tab
Set the default format to “24 Bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)”

I am only assuming the people who are having trouble with this are using windows vista..

correct me if i am wrong, and i’ll look into it further, but feel this should solve your problem.

If you get the Unhandled exception error, start the game in Safe Mode and change your config. Worked for me.

Other sites suggest downloading and pasting the d3dx9_37.dll file into your CoDWAW folder, but then you get another error.

Allow applications to take esclusive control of this device.

My problem is the following: If i change the Default Format to 16 bit, 8000 Hz or 16 bit, 11025 Hz or 16 bit, 16000 Hz i get the “Unhandled exception caught” error.
But: If i change the Default Format to 16 bit, 22500 Hz or 16 bit, 48000 Hz or 24 bit, 44100 Hz or 24 bit, 48000 Hz i only see a black screen and nothing else. I also dont hear any sound.
I have the SoundMax Integrated HD Audio Device installed (i downloaded it from my motherboard supporter’s official website).
So how can i solve this problem?

Well dont know about anyone else but totally fed up with trying to get this to work doesnt seem to be any response to the problem with it failing to start up (vista) from company. Ill will be cancelling my pre order until they sort out this.

It’s a Beta version … so that when the full / retail version is released that there are no bugs, People think the beta is a demo.. The beta is a testing phase to address issues that were not picked up under controlled circumstances.

I have emailed, the Gods above .. and am waiting a reply now, they will get back to me before the callofduty forums get answers so soon as news comes to hand i’ll create a post about it, anyway shouldn’t be too much longer.

You reply’s are helping get to the bottom of this, I didn’t realize at first how wide spread this problem was, but now seeing that so many are experiencing issues we should be close to a result soon.

Keep posting your errors and we will hit this on the head ASAP

Well now,

I’ve reinstalled the beta, upgraded the DirectX9c package, unistalled and reinstalled both the game and DirectX9c repeatly in different successions. AND NOW the result…I still get the “cannot find d3dx9_37.dll error.

I have re-installed 4 times now and keep getting the same error after clicking game icon:

I dont have the Unimodem option in my device manager, I have the latest DXc, tried disabling sound. I might try throwing the whole lot out the f****** window……that might help!!

At first got the missing dll error. Resolved that then got the Unhandled exception error. Tried everything. Ended up completely disabling my audio in the BIOS of my computer. Now, COD5 tries to start, a black screen appears for about a minute. My hard drive is going nuts then boom, crash with an unhandled exception error. I don’t think it is audio related because my audio is diabled completely. Plus, it doesn’t happen until at least a minute or so while the game attempts to load.

My specs:

Intel P35 Chipset motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
2GB DDR2, 667Mhz
160GB Seagate SATA HD with 79GB free space
NVidia 9600GT w/latest drivers
Realtek HD Audio w/latest drivers (disabled in BIOS)
Windows Vista 32-bit with latest updates
Firewall Disabled
Anti-virus disabled
Nothing else running it systray except for sidebar.
I do not overclock.
COD4 works great

Regarding the radeon 9800. I have one of those and i think this game is unsuported because it doesn’t work.

I had the dll problem, latest catalyst drivers and a dx update solved that problem. But i’m getting the blank screen as well.

Anyway, if you read the required system settings regarding the gfx. It says 1600XT or higher for ATI. Tha means shader model 3.0 or higher. Radeon 9800 is SM 2.1 .

I whish i could be wrong … or they can fix it in the final version, who knows …

This is very strange, out test system we are using is exactly the same as your system, and we didn’t get any errors…

Our test rig is using XP SP3.. that is the only difference i can see..

waiting on a reply from the dev’s but keep on posting so i can pass on the errors and hopefully get to the bottom of this asap ..

It is beta .. so things like this do happen and you are helping fix for the retail version.

look read this….Our test system running call of duty world at war / cod 5 / call of duty 5 has the following hardware: E7200 @ 3.4ghz, 2 gig ram & a 9600gt video card…look for videon card i have 9600xt but i have black screen…i don’t know what is wrong

BTW: fix for windows vista has no relationship with dx as i think

Ok if you get this message “Error during initialization: Unhandled exception caught” this fix should help.

1- Go to Control Panel
2- The click on “Hardware and Sound”
3- Click on “Sound”
4- Doble click on “speakers”
5- go to the Advanced tab
6- Set the default format to “24 Bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)”
7- Thats it!

Now for Windows XP users, there is currently no fix but I’ll try to keep a look out.

Most if not all newer Radeon cards do not support Shader 3.0. ATI went a different route. I have a X800 GTO and get the black screen too.

I get the Direct X update problem. When I go to do the update it says an “internal error has occurred, and to please review my dxerror.log & directx.log. After that I cannot complete the update.

The DVD quality is only for vista and the unimodem half-duplex is only for XP Service pack 3 i am still waiting for the proper XP sollution… hope i helped

Hey, I’ve got the issue with the blank screen when opening up using XP SP3. The sound is coming through but no picture is being shown.

I’ve updated to the latest DirectX and have the latest drivers installed for my ATI FireGL X2 256 card. Pc’s are crap, this issue reminds me why I got an Xbox….

what it has to do is no matter how good our graphics cards are, they have to have SM 3.0 support to run cod5

I know it sucks, but maybe there will be a patch or something,

now i can get into the game BUT, when I try to load a map( or just opening my own room) it stucks at the beginning of the loading. i just see the map’s picture and it starts to load but then it stucks.

Hear hear Bob! I have had the ‘Unhandled exception error caught’ message forever and nobody seems to know a fix for XP. I have tried EVERYTHING to fix it!!!!

My £40 is staying right in my pocket if I cant even play the Beta either!

can u please fix the whole black screen when it opens and only sounds on xp. Because if u dont fix it by the end of the beta testing im not buying a game that potentially isn’t going to work, or buy it then wait for a chronic patch that just about caps my internet. So please email me if u fix the problem or sumthing because loosing a consumer is not what you want. i might go buy TF2 to play with my friends because it’s cheaper and easier to run. so i advise u fix it soon.

i will leave some fixes of errors happned to me i have win xp and 8400 gs first error is the game won’t run the fix is download the d3dx9_37.dll and place it in the game folder then a dx error fixed with update and disable Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio device then a changing resolution crash fixed with turning xfire off this errors happned to me and i fixed it and this site helped me alot thanks and now cod 5 run great but the only error is i cant play in map castle. thanks and i wish a have helped

Nope. I’ve disbaled the unimodem half duplex and closed XFire plus I’ve updated my direct x yet I am still getting the “Unhandled exception caught” error.

NOT everyone with xp 3 has UNIMODEM DUples device in their hardware devices. I don’t have it so i can’t turn it off. Is there a fix for us?

When I try and load up the demo, it says that it cannot connect to the online service? Help please as I want to see how it is before I buy the game. I’m not going to buy it until I see how well it runs on my pc!

Wow.

So COD5 is being released tomorrow and I still can’t play it. There is no ways that I am buying this game if I know I’m going to be getting stupid errors. Well done Treyarch. Been more than 2 weeks now and still no fix for XP.

Hi Guys

I installed the game on my lap top… I have a Radeon X700 128mb… but all I get is a black Screen with sound. Nothing appears, just the sounds and black screen. Do you have any Idea how to fix it? I used to play a lot Cod4 on my laptop… I thought this one should also work but nothing appears, what should I do????

someone pls help!!! i can see the menus hear the sounds, but i can’t see the actual gameplay. i can see things like the health and xp bars but nothing else!!!!

cod 4 works fine and i can even run crysis on high!!! why the hell dosent cod5 work??????

Uh uh uh… I don’t know if it has been said, but I started having that directx error. It got fixed by putting the file in system dir. Afterwards I got the exception error. I got the dxwebsetup which fixed that. That or renaming the video-file in main/video. But then the I just got blank screen.

Accidently, to get the game to exit I pressed ESC, and then I came to the menu!

Regarding the Online Service Error … I’m reading that they have stopped allow the beta version to work with their online service. The 1.1 update also will not recognize the beta version and complete the upgrade.

Solution for Windows XP users:

“Unhandeled Exception Error” fixed
It worked for me very well. Solution is as under:

Go to “My Computer”
Right click on it Select “Properties”
“Hardware” then “Device Manager”
Select “Sound video and game control”
There, disable “UniModem full Duplex Audio Device”

Now run the game & Enjoy
